From February 5 onwards, WhatsApp will not let you know when someone screenshots your chat

WhatsApp is not going to notify you when someone screenshots your chat. The word is 'not'.

Whatsapp has been doing bunch of updates to its cross-platform messaging app and now creators of the app and according to a report on 8Shit.net, creators of Whatsapp has announced to add much-requested feature, which would notify users every time someone takes a screenshot of the conversation. To mention, the headline of the report reads, ‘From February 5 on, WhatsApp will let you know when someone screenshots your chat’.

According to the 8shit.net report, Jan Koum, the CEO of Whatsapp has announced to add the feature in the next update. “The functioning is simple, just like the blue tick: You will have the option activated by default. If it’s checked, you’ll be notified if someone screenshots your conversation, and others will be notified if you screenshot theirs. If it’s unchecked, no one gets notified”, said Koum as quoted in the report.

At this point we would like to inform our readers that it is highly likely to be a fake report. So, we took time to find out what the ‘app’ is happening with the Whatsapp. We scanned through official Whatsapp blog to find any such announcement, but we didn’t find any. The last announcement on the blog was made about the recently launched Whatsapp video calling feature. Since then there has been nothing intimidated about the alleged feature on Whatsapp blog or its social media profiles as well. The publisher appears to intend pun with lot of their pieces and probably this time they took their wit a bit far, having many Whatsapp users worried about the alleged feature. The rumor have spread wide on Facebook and many Whatsapp Chat Group and we would recommend our readers to not pay any heeds to it, until an official word comes from the Whatsapp itself. These rumors are common and break out many a times. A similar rumor spread of Instagram rolling out feature that would notify users when other users take a screenshot of their photos.

Whether there should be a screenshot notification feature at all onWhatsapp? This is indeed a user-requested feature, but not everybody wants it. The feature has its own pro and cons, similar to the read receipts feature, which is there on Whatsapp, but you can turn them off if you don’t want other user to get read receipts on their texts received by you. However, the feature might be useful many others. With that said, the feature is not coming anytime soon, at least not on ‘February 5’.
