iPhone 12 Mini’s release date and how much will it cost?

23:26:00

iPhone 12 Mini’s release date and how much will it cost?

How much will the iPhone 12 Mini cost? Here's everything you need to know about the smallest iPhone in the upcoming iPhone 12 series.

iPhone-12-lifesaystechnology-technology-talks

Apple is launching an iPhone 12 Mini

The smallest iPhone 12 model is going to get ‘mini’ name, as per leaks. The “mini” naming scheme isn’t new. Apple has been using it for years for its popular devices like the iPad Mini, iPod Mini and Mac Mini.

We wouldn’t be surprised if Apple adopts the “mini” name for the smallest iPhone in the iPhone 12 lineup. There’s a large set of consumers who want an iPhone with smaller screen size. Yes, Apple already sells the small iPhone SE in the market but its design is already dated. For consumers who want a flagship iPhone with smaller 5.4-inch screen size, the iPhone 12 Mini could be an ideal option.

The iPhone 12 Mini won’t be cheap

For the first time, Apple will launch 5G iPhones this year. However, many believe that the iPhone 12 Mini is likely to be a 4G-only model. While nothing has been confirmed just yet, but a 4G-only model makes a lot of sense. With devices like iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max could cost $100 more due to the superfast 5G connectivity, Apple needs a flagship iPhone that caters to the mainstream crowd.

Analysts believe that the iPhone 12 Mini could start at $699. For reference, the iPhone 11 started at $699 when it was released in September 2019. And let’s not forget that Apple already has the 4G-only iPhone SE in the market, which starts at $399.

iPhone-12-apple-lifesaystechnology-technology-talks

The iPhone 12 Mini will be powered by A14 chipset

The ‘budget’ iPhone 12 Mini will be cased in aluminium and will arrive with the latest Apple silicon- the A14 Bionic chipset. The phone will come with an OLED screen, a dual-camera setup, smaller notch and an iPad Pro-like design with flatter edges. Ming-Chi Kuo claims that none of the models come packaged with a charger. That will be sold separately.

When will be the iPhone 12 Mini launch?

We don’t know the official launch date yet, but in the last few days, multiple reports have claimed that the iPhone 12 event is for October 13. The iPhone 12 Mini and iPhone 12 will likely go on sale towards the end of October and the Pro models will seemingly go on sale sometime in November.

Samsung Galaxy M01: The affordable handset

The Samsung Galaxy M01 is likely to bear a waterdrop notched design and pack a 5.7-inch TFT display with an HD+ (720x1560 pixels) resolution. It may miss out on a physical fingerprint reader.

Under the hood, the handset is tipped to draw power from Snapdragon 439 chipset, coupled with 3GB of RAM, 32GB of storage, and a 4,000mAh battery.

The M01 is expected to offer a dual rear-camera setup

The Galaxy M01 is expected to come with a dual rear-camera setup comprising a 13MP (f/2.2) primary sensor and a 2MP (f/2.4) depth camera with LED flash. On the front, a single 5MP (f/2.2) selfie shooter is likely to be present.

Indian developer earns Rs 75 lakh for finding 'Sign in with Apple' bug

Indian developer earns Rs 75 lakh for finding 'Sign in with Apple' bug

Sign-in-with-Apple-Bug-Lifesaystechnology-Technology-Talks

Jain disclosed the flaw to Apple which led to an award from Apple's bug bounty programme. Apple has since patched the bug.

A 27-year-old Indian security researcher Bhavuk Jain has grabbed $100,000 (over Rs 75.5 lakh) from Apple for discovering a now-patched Zero-Day vulnerability in the Sign in with Apple account authentication.

The Zero-Day vulnerability could have allowed a hacker to break into an Apple user's account who log into third-party apps like Dropbox, Spotify, Airbnb and Giphy (now acquired by Facebook) and more.

Jain who holds a bachelor's degree in electronics and communication discovered Zero-Day bug in ‘Sign in with Apple' that affected third-party applications which were using it and didn't implement their own additional security measures.

"This bug could have resulted in a full account takeover of user accounts on that third party application irrespective of a victim having a valid Apple ID or not," Jain said in a statement on Saturday.

"For this vulnerability, I was paid $100,000 by Apple under their Apple Security Bounty programme," he announced.

Jain is a full-stack developer interested mostly in mobile app development using React Native. He is currently a full-time bug bounty hunter "trying to make the internet a safer place for everyone".

Launched in 2019, ‘Sign in with Apple' is aimed to be a more privacy-focused alternative to third-party logins.

Jain disclosed the flaw to Apple which led to an award from Apple's bug bounty programme. Apple has since patched the bug.

According to Jain, the ‘Sign in with Apple' works similarly to ‘OAuth 2.0'.

"There are two possible ways to authenticate a user by either using a JWT (JSON Web Token) or a code generated by the Apple server. The code is then used to generate a JWT," he explained.

In the second step, while authorizing, Apple gives an option to a user to either share the Apple Email ID with the third-party app or not.

If the user decides to hide the Email ID, Apple generates its own user-specific Apple relay Email ID.

"Depending upon the user selection, after successful authorization, Apple creates a JWT which contains this email ID which is then used by the 3rd party app to log in a user," said Jain.

He found that he could request JWTs for any email ID from Apple and when the signature of these tokens was verified using Apple's public key, they showed as valid.

"This means an attacker could forge a JWT by linking any Email ID to it and gaining access to the victim's account," Jain noted.

The impact of this vulnerability was quite critical as it could have allowed a full account takeover.

A lot of developers have integrated Sign in with Apple since it is mandatory for applications that support other social logins.

Before patching the bug, Apple did an investigation of their logs and determined there was no misuse or account compromised due to this vulnerability.

New iPhone SE 2 release date, price & specs rumours

New iPhone SE 2 release date, price & specs rumours

Apple's new budget iPhone for 2020 looks set to arrive very soon indeed - but it won't be called the iPhone 9 after all, but simply 'iPhone SE'. We predict its release date, price, tech specs, design and new features

In this article we collect and analyse the clues pointing to the new iPhone SE's release date, tech specs, design, new features and price, and gather the best and most interesting leaked images and videos making the rounds on the internet.

In brief, current rumours predict the following iPhone SE 2/iPhone 9 launch details:

Launch announcement 15 April 2020
4.7in display
A13 Bionic processor chip
3GB of RAM
64GB baseline storage, with options for 128GB and 256GB
Updated LCP antenna for improved wireless performance
White, black and red colour finishes
iPhone 8-style design
Touch ID not Face ID
Price from $399

Release date: When will the iPhone 9 come out?

iPhone 9 release date: 15 April 2020 (tentatively)
We know that a new iPhone SE exists, following the leak (to 9to5Mac) of an early build of iOS 14 which mentions the device in its code. This indicates, incidentally, that the iPhone 9 will support Transit Express, and 9to5Mac believes this will be used to encourage owners of the iPhone 6 (which does not) to finally make the upgrade.

And multiple sources now point to a launch in April - although they are split over which day will see the announcement.

A tip from a "highly trusted" 9to5Mac reader on 2 April suggests it would arrive within days. This is backed up by an amazing gaffe on Apple's own website: a screen protector for iPhone 8 and iPhone SE was available for a short time, indicating that a new SE would shortly appear with the same screen dimensions (4.7in) as the 8.

What will the next iPhone SE be called?

Throughout this rumour cycle the three favourites have been iPhone SE 2, iPhone SE Pro and iPhone 9. The latter jumped to the front of the pack in December 2019, when a Macotakara source predicted that Apple would use the oddly neglected number nine for its next petite smartphone, after jumping from the iPhone 8 to the iPhone X (pronounced ten) and then 11.

But it looks like all of those theories were so much hot air, and based on the screen protector leak shown above, Apple is going to confound us all by calling it simply iPhone SE. Which, let's be honest, is quite confusing. Here at Macworld we will call it iPhone SE (2020) to differentiate it from its 2016 namesake.

Price: How much will the iPhone SE 2 cost?

TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is estimating $399 (which we'd translate to £399 or slightly above, based on Apple's usual formula).

Until September 2018 the iPhone SE cost £379/$399 for the 32GB version, and £479/$449 for 128GB; it was then discontinued. Those prices are comparable to the iPhone 8 (Apple's current cheapest phone), which starts at £479/$449 for 64GB.

Note that if the SE 2 is launched, it may not launch where you live. Some reports back in 2018 suggested that a new SE handset might launch, but not be available everywhere.

Why Apple needs a new iPhone SE:-

Apple still sells a lot of iPhones, but by the company's stellar standards sales have taken a dip in recent quarters. Is this down to the lack of a small and affordable handset in Apple's range?

Maybe. Tim Cook suggested that China was key to Apple's reduction in estimates for Apple's Q1 2019, blaming trade wars and the economic downturn in that part of the world. But the current iPhone range doesn't seem well-suited to this huge and largely untapped market, which is amply supplied with cheaper phones from the Far East's own manufacturers.

Assuming that China doesn't ban Apple in retaliation for the (seemingly temporary) Huawei ban, the appears ripe for the launch of a low-priced Apple handset that would appeal to fashion-conscious consumers who don't want to settle for a phone that's more than two years old. It's possible that Apple saw the iPhone XR (and its successor the non-Pro iPhone 11) as fulfilling these criteria: at a launch price of £749/$749 the XR was cheaper than the XS, and the iPhone 11 has been announced at $699 in the US. But these are still higher numbers than what the SE cost when brand new.

Interestingly, during the first few months of 2019 Apple started selling off some stock of the SE in surprise sales. Stock cleared quickly, suggesting that there is both demand for an iPhone that size (4in) and that people are desperate for a low-cost iPhone. Having established the level of demand, could Apple now determine that it is time to launch a new iPhone SE?

In what could be seen as an attempt to disguise the high price of the XR Apple has advertised the handset as if it cost £499/$499 - but that is only as a trade-in if you have a reasonably new handset to swap. What Apple needs is a phone that actually costs £499/$499.

Google Pixel 4 Render Shows Off Complete Phone Ahead of Launch; Pixel Launcher, Themes Apps Now Available for Download

Google Pixel 4 Render Shows Off Complete Phone Ahead of Launch; Pixel Launcher, Themes Apps Now Available for Download

HIGHLIGHTS:-

  1. Pixel 4 render suggests a thick top bezel with Soli radar chip
  2. Google is likely to start selling Pixel 4 sometime after October 18
  3. The phone would come preloaded with Pixel Launcher 10

Google Pixel 4, the next-generation flagship by the search giant, has been leaked in detail through a render. The official-looking render shows the Pixel 4 from its front and back. The new Pixel phone is expected to come in multiple colour options. It is also likely to include an all-new camera setup at the back to take on the likes of the iPhone 11 Pro Max and Samsung Galaxy Note 10+. Alongside the Pixel 4 render, the APK files of the Pixel Launcher 10 and Pixel Themes 10 have surfaced on the Web. Both apps are speculated to come pre-installed on the Pixel 4.

The leaked render, courtesy prolific tipster Evan Blass, purportedly shows off the Google Pixel 4 from its front and back. The phone appears with a wallpaper that highlights the characters "P" and "4" along with an abstract design. Further, it is likely to have the "Just Black" colour.

Apart from the major highlights, the Pixel 4 render showcases a thick top bezel that could have the room for the Soli radar chip to enable Face Unlock and Motion Sense gestures. Google notably confirmed the presence of the Soli chip on its next-generation Pixel handset in the recent past. Further, the bottom and side bezels of the Pixel 4 appear to have a thin design over what we've seen on the existing Pixel phones.

The back of the phone available in the render looks identical to what Google released earlier this year. There is a square camera module that likely to include three image sensors along with an LED flash module. Furthermore, there is Google's branding with the iconic "G" logo.

Last month, a leaked promo video of the Pixel 4 emerged online to suggest its Air Gestures and improved night photography. Some renders based on initial leaks also released in July that had shown a design similar to what we can see on the latest leak.

In addition to the leaked render, APK file links for the Pixel Launcher 10 and Pixel Themes 10 have separately surfaced on APK Mirror, as reported by Android Police. Both apps were spotted earlier this week and are likely to be a part of the Pixel 4.

Google is expected to launch the Pixel 4 at its hardware event on October 15. The event will take place in New York and is also likely to be the place where the Mountain View company would unveil its updated Chromecast and new Nest Hub display alongside the Pixelbook 2.

While the Google Pixel 4 is likely to be unveiled on October 15 alongside the Pixel 4 XL and other hardware offerings, it isn't likely to go on sale on the same day. The official Android account on Twitter has mentioned that the OnePlus 7T₹ 37,999 is the first device to ship with Android 10. Since the OnePlus phone is launching in the US on October 18, it suggests that the Pixel 4 handsets wouldn't be available anytime before October 18.

If we look at the historical records, all the Pixel phones, except the Pixel 3a models, have gone on sale sometime after their formal debut in the market. This again suggests that the new phones would follow the company's tradition and hit stores days after their launch.

Meanwhile, Google has kicked off a new #SwitchtoPixel campaign on its Made by Google YouTube channel. The campaign is aimed to set the pitch for the Pixel 4 series by highlighting unlimited Google Photos storage, new camera experience, easy transferring of data, and an enhanced battery life. Videos showcasing the new features have been posted on the YouTube channel.

iPhone X-Inspired 2018 iPhone Models With New Colours, Bigger Screens

01:55:00
iPhone X-Inspired 2018 iPhone Models to Launch With New Colours, Bigger Screens

Highlights:-

- Apple will launch 3 iPhone models this year
- Two models will have OLED screens, one will sport LCD panel
- The LCD model with 6.1-inch display is said to have dual SIM slots
- Apple is not only doubling down on the iPhone X, it's tripling down.

The world's most valuable company plans to launch three new phones soon that keep the edge-to-edge screen design of last year's flagship, according to people familiar with the matter. The devices will boast a wider range of prices, features, and sizes to increase their appeal, said the people, who asked not to be identified discussing unannounced products.
iPhone X-Inspired 2018 iPhone Models With New Colours, Bigger Screens

However, none of the three iPhones will be wholly new designs like the iPhone X was last year or the iPhone 6 in 2014, with some inside Apple labelling the launch as an "S year," a designation the company has given to new handsets that retain the previous design but add new internal features. The company is planning more significant changes for next year, they added.

The iPhone X wasn't as big a hit as some Wall Street analysts hoped for before it was released last November. However, it still sold strongly and helped Apple gain share in a smartphone market that has almost stopped growing.

The upcoming phones, planned to be unveiled in September, show the company is adjusting its strategy. Rather than luring millions of new iPhone users, Apple's goal these days is to steadily raise average prices, while expanding the total number of active devices to support sales of accessories and digital services like streaming music and video.

"The iPhone is entering a period of 0-to-5 percent annual growth, and the things they're doing this fall will keep them on that path," said Gene Munster, a veteran Apple analyst and managing partner of Loup Ventures. The "real sizzle" for investors remains the iPhone because it's the hub for almost all Apple's other offerings like the Apple Watch, AirPods, and Apple Music, Munster added. Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller declined to comment.

In early 2016, the company reported a new milestone: 1 billion active devices. By early this year, that number had grown to 1.3 billion. The three new iPhones due next month have a good chance to add to this important foundation of the company's future.

There'll be a new high-end iPhone, internally dubbed D33, with a display that measures about 6.5-inch diagonally, according to the people familiar with the matter. That would make it the largest iPhone by far and one of the biggest mainstream phones on the market. It will continue to have a glass back with stainless steel edges and dual cameras on the back. The big difference on the software side will be the ability to view content side-by-side in apps like Mail and Calendar. It will be Apple's second phone with a crisper organic light-emitting diode, or OLED, screen.

"Having a bigger screen is always a plus for demand," Munster said, while noting the device should help Apple boost iPhone selling prices, which has supported revenue growth in recent quarters. The average price of iPhones sold in Apple's most-recent quarter was $724, up 19 percent from a year earlier.

Apple also plans an upgrade to the current iPhone X with a 5.8-inch OLED screen, which is internally dubbed D32, the people said. The main changes to the new OLED iPhones will be to processing speed and the camera, according to the people familiar with the devices.

Perhaps the most significant phone will be a new, cheaper device destined to replace the iPhone 8. Codenamed N84, it will look like the iPhone X, but include a larger near 6.1-inch screen, come in multiple colours, and sport aluminium edges instead of the iPhone X's stainless steel casing. It will also have a cheaper LCD screen instead of an OLED panel to keep costs down.
The cheaper version's aluminium edges won't necessarily be the same colour as the coloured glass back, simplifying production, one person familiar with the matter said.

Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. will assemble the two high-end OLED iPhones, while the LCD phone will be split primarily between Hon Hai and Pegatron Corp., the people said. Hon Hai began assembling the OLED devices in late July and only started on the LCD phones this month, partly due to minor challenges with the LCD panels, one person said. Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. will remain sole supplier of the main processor for the new iPhones, while primary iPhone camera lens supplier Largan Precision Co. is expected to see sales rise with the launch of new Apple phones.

All three will have the gesture-based control system Apple introduced last year to replace the iPhone home button. They will also feature Face ID, Apple's system for unlocking the phones by glancing at them. Bloomberg reported several details of the new phones earlier this year.
The lower-end device will be Apple's second attempt at differentiating its phones partly by colour. In 2013, Apple launched the iPhone 5c, which was essentially an iPhone 5 in plastic casing. The strategy flopped with iPhone users preferring Apple's metal phones. This year's lower-cost iPhone will use aluminium edges, retaining a premium feel.

"Colors always give Apple a little near-term bump, but it doesn't change the iPhone's trajectory," Munster said.
Apple is planning dual-SIM card slots for the two larger phones in at least some regions, people with knowledge of the plans said. That feature would let travellers easily switch between a local carrier plan and a new country or coverage area.

The new iPhones come at an important time for the company. Apple is facing growing rivalry outside of the U.S., especially in developing markets where many people prefer less expensive phones with larger screens. The new low-end iPhone with the larger screen will give Apple a way to compete there.

The launch comes on the heels of Samsung Electronics Co. introducing its larger Note 9 smartphone. Alphabet's Google also plans to debut new Pixel phones on October 9 at a media event in New York City, other people familiar with the plans said. A Google spokeswoman declined to comment.
The new iPhone lineup has presented Apple with a naming conundrum, according to a person familiar with the deliberations. The company will be selling three phones that look similar and all have Face ID. But the cheapest model will be larger than the mid-range version, potentially confusing consumers.

While planning the new devices, Apple has altered the names multiple times. It has at least considered branding the new premium phones the "iPhone Xs," indicating that they're an upgrade to last year's iPhone X, the person said. The company has also weighed eschewing the "Plus" label for the larger model, which it has used since the iPhone 6 Plus launched with a larger screen in 2014. The final names could be different, the person noted.

Beyond the iPhones, Apple has been working on updated AirPods, an AirPower wireless charger, a new Apple Watch, and revamped iPad Pro tablets for this year.

The Watches will look similar to current models, but will include larger screens that go nearly edge-to-edge. Their overall size will remain similar, making them compatible with existing straps, people familiar with the product said.

The new iPad Pros will come in sizes around 11-inches and 12.9-inches and include slimmer bezels. They'll remove the home button and fingerprint sensing in lieu of an iPhone X-like gesture interface and Face ID for unlocking the tablet, people familiar with the plans said. The iPad mini, which was last upgraded in 2015, and the 9.7-inch iPad, last refreshed in March, won't be upgraded, a person familiar with the company's plans said.
